Cannot View Content Properly in Seagate Media App

Troubleshooting information in case your content does not display either in the Media app or in a browser.

Please follow these procedures if you cannot see your content properly in the Seagate Media App.  Please note that none of these is data-destructive.

When this article refers to a Wireless device it is referring to a Seagate Wireless Plus or a Seagate Wireless.

First, try power cycling the drive.  To do so, turn the drive off using the power button on the side of the drive.  Once the lights are not illuminated anymore, wait about 30 seconds, then turn the drive back on.  Connect to your drive wirelessly as normal using your mobile device or computer and verify if the content shows up.

If content still does not display properly, grab a paper clip or a similar object.  With the drive still powered on, locate the little hole under the drive, by the label.  On the Seagate Wireless the reset button is on the side.  Stick the paper clip in there and hold it for 10 seconds then let go.  Turn the drive off using the power button of the drive.  Once the lights are off, wait about 30 seconds, then power the drive back on.  Please note that doing the pinhole reset will reset the SSID name and password you may have set up.  You can set them back to what they were once you're wirelessly connected to the drive again.

If content is still not displayed properly, then there is more than likely some form of issue with the index files on the Seagate Wireless device.  Please follow these instructions to fix the index :

On a Windows computer :
  1. Power down the Wireless device.
  2. Connect the Wireless device to your computer via USB.
  3. Open the Start Menu, type "folder options" into the search bar and then press Enter.
  4. Select the View tab.
  5. Under Hidden files and folders, check the Show hidden files, folders, and drives option.
  6. Close that window and open the File Explorer.
  • Windows 8+: Press the Windows key () + E to open File Explorer ().
  • Windows 7/Vista/XP: Open (My) Computer/Windows Explorer.
  1. Double-click on the Wireless device.
  2. Locate the folders entitled .GoFlexData and .GoFlexData_minidlna.
  3. Delete both of these folders.
  4. Safely disconnect your Wireless device.
  5. Power on the Wireless device and wait for the LED to turn solid blue (this may take a few minutes).
  6. From your mobile device's Wi-Fi settings, select your Wireless device.
  7. Launch the Seagate Media app and view your content.
    It may take some time for your content to display fully within the app or browser, since the device is rebuilding the database.
On a Mac computer :
  1. Power down the Wireless device.
  2. Connect the Wireless device to your computer via USB.
  3. Click on Go, at the top of your screen.  If you do not see the Go option, open Finder to get the default Finder options.  Go should show up in the bar in the top across your screen.
  4. Select Utilities.
  5. Select Terminal.
  6. The terminal box will open.  In there, type the following : defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE and press Enter.  Make sure all the letters are capitalized appropriately.
  7. Still in the terminal box, now type the following : killall Finder and press Enter.
  8. Exit the terminal.  You can now see hidden files and folders on your Wireless device.
  9. Double-click on the Wireless device.
  10. Locate the folders entitled .GoFlexData and .GoFlexData_minidlna.
  11. Delete both of these folders.
  12. Safely disconnect your Wireless device.
  13. Power on the Wireless device and wait for the LED to turn solid blue (this may take a few minutes).
  14. From your mobile device's Wi-Fi settings, select your Wireless device.
  15. Launch the Seagate Media app and view your content.
    It may take some time for your content to display fully within the app or browser, since the device is rebuilding the database.
