NAS OS 4.x - Using the App Manager

Provides instructions for using the NAS OS 4.x App Manager
  1. From the NAS OS 4.x Welcome page log in as admin.

  2. After the Home page opens click on the App Manager’s icon.
    The App Manager will open.

  3. Click the All link on the left side of the page to view the available Apps.

  4. Click on an App. If will provide an Overview page.

  5. Review the information for the app.
     

How to Install a Server App
 

  1. To install an app click the Install button on the Overview page

 

 
  1. On the All page you can install an app by first moving your mouse over the app then clicking the Install button to continue.

 

 
  1. The install file will begin downloading to the NAS. After the file downloads it will automatically begin installing. The server app will then be available in the My Apps section of the App Manager.


 

Manual Installation of a Server App

 

You may also perform a manual installation of Server Apps. In order to manually install you must first download the App file from the internet.  

 
  1. On the My Apps page, click the Manual Install button.  The Manual Install dialog box will launch.

  2. Browse to and select the file you want to install.

 

Before installing a Server App you have downloaded from the internet, you must check the box acknowledging the risk.
 

  1. After acknowledgment, click Install.

 

 

Setting Permissions for Installed Server Apps


Setting Permissions for Server Apps are for granting groups of Users access to the App.  When a non-admin User logs in to the NAS Home page, only the Apps that the user has permissions for will be available to use. When admin Users are created they are automatically added to the Administrators Group.  By default, when a Server App is installed, the Administrators Group is automatically given access to the Server App. When an admin User logs in to the NAS Home page, all installed Server Apps are available to access.
 

  1. To begin, click on the Server App’s icon to open the Overview page.

  2. Once the Overview page opens click on the Privilege tab.
    Server Apps are assigned permissions by dragging a Group into the ‘Groups with access box’.

  3. Select the Group to which you want to grant access by highlighting with your mouse then drag the Group into the ‘Groups with access’ box.

  4. When you have completed the task close the Dialog Box.

 

 

You may also assign the group privileges when you create a Group in the NAS OS 4.x Device Manager. During the Group creation process you will see a screen that allows you to add the Server App to Group Privileges.

 
  1. When the Set app permissions page displays, drag the Server App to the Access box to grant privileges to the Group.  

  2. When you have finished click the Next button.  Your new Group will have access to the Server App. You will also be advised that the Group has access on the new Group’s Summary page.

 

 
  1. When you have completed the task click the Finish button.

 

Uninstall a Server App

 

Next we will uninstall the Server App.  
 

  1. First, highlight the Server App you want to uninstall by running your mouse over the entry.

  2. Then click on the Actions button.

  3. When the menu displays click on Uninstall.

 

 

You will be notified that removing the Server App will erase all the associated data.
 

  1. Click the Yes button to continue.  The Server App will be removed from your NAS and will no longer appear on the My Apps page.

 

Turning an App OFF

 

If an App is running it will use NAS OS 4.x resources.  An App can be turned off if it is not used to increase NAS resources for other processes.  

 
  1. To begin, click on the running Server App’s icon to open the Overview page.

  2. Once the Overview page opens, click the ON blue switch and it will switch to OFF

  3. When you have completed the task close the Overview box.

  4. Another way an App can be turned off or stopped is on the All page, move your mouse over the app then click the Action button then click Stop.

 

 

Turning an App ON

 

If an unused App has been turned off or stopped, it can be started at any time.

  1. To begin, click on the Server App’s to open the Overview page.Once the Overview page opens, click the OFF switch and it will switch to ON and turn blue.

 
  1. When you have completed the task close the Overview box.

  2. Another way an App can be turned ON is from the All page.  Move your mouse over the App then click the Action button then click Start.
