If the host issues an identify command during an action of writing data in NCQ for a drive that is connected inside a PC and not an external case, the data's writing can be destabilized, and can lead to data loss.
This is relevant for Samsung-model internal drives with the following model numbers:
F4EG HD204UI/JP1
HD204UI/JP2

To correct this problem, please use the DOS patch that is linked below.

Backup your data before using this firmware patch tool.

  1. Please download the file.
  2. Save the .exe file to a bootable media, like a CD/DVD, a USB drive, or a floppy diskette.
Do not remove the bootable media once the file is copied to it.
  3. Connect the drive to the primary master position in the computer.
  4. Boot your computer from the bootable media, which will launch the firmware flash program.
  5. Run HD204UI_JP.exe
  6. When the system displays that the firmware flash has successfully completed, remove the bootable media.
  7. Shut down the computer.
Do not reboot (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) your computer or push the reset button during the firmware patching/flashing process.
Doing so can cause the process to fail and can in some cases destroy the hard drive.
