An informative guide for understanding model numbers on Samsung drives.

Samsung serial numbers are configured in two different ways:

  • 10 / 11 digits
    or
  • 14 / 15 digits

In the case of 10 / 11 digit compositions, the 4th digit represents the manufacture year and and the 5th digit represents the manufacture month.
In the case of 14 / 15 digit compositions, the 8th digit represents the manufacture year and and the 9th digit represents the manufacture month.

Year:

  • N = 2000
  • R = 2001
  • T = 2002
  • W = 2003

Month:

  • 1 = January
  • 2 = Feburary
  • 3 = March
    ...
  • 8 = August
  • 9 = September
  • A = October
  • B = November
  • C = December

You can find the serial number from:

  • the product label or the small label on the cover, or
  • by executing SeaTools.

If the serial number has 11 or 15 digits, the last digit is a letter of the alphabet.
