GoFlex Home - Port Forwarding

GoFlex Home - Port Forwarding

Explains how to enable Port Forwarding so as to enable the GoFlex Home to share files remotely with greater speeds.

With Port Forwarding enabled, the GoFlex Home will be able to share files remotely with greater speeds.

  • With Port Forwarding enabled, when you access data saved on the GoFlex Home remotely, data will travel straight from the GoFlex Home to your remote location.
  • Without Port Forwarding enabled, when you try to access data saved on the GoFlex Home remotely, all the data must travel from the GoFlex Home, through the Seagate servers, then to your remote location.

By enabling Port Forwarding, you do not need SeagateShare.com to facilitate the remote access of your data. All data transfers will be directly going between your GoFlex Home and PC or mobile device in a peer-to-peer fashion. This also enhances data transferring performance.

To enable Port Forwarding:

  • Go to Preferences -> Server Preferences.
  • Select Yes on Configure router via UPNP.
  • Select Yes on Attempt to overwrite UPNP configuration on router.
  • Click Submit.

To test if you have Port Forwarding enabled, you can use the following utility, please see: http://support.goflexhome.hipserv.com/en/router/testportforward.html
