Seagate DiscWizard can be used either within a Windows environment or from a bootable CD. This article explains how to use the bootable CD option.

To create a bootable DiscWizard CD, you will first need to install DiscWizard on a computer that has Windows 8/7/Vista/XP installed. You can install this from the DiscWizard CD that may have been provided with your hard drive, or by downloading DiscWizard from the Seagate website.

  1. Once DiscWizard has been installed, launch the program.

  2. Once the program is launched, select the Tools and Utilities dropdown menu.

  3. There, select Create Bootable Media.

  4. In the Bootable Media Contents Selection screen, you can select which versions of DiscWizard you want installed on your CD.

  5. Seagate DiscWizard should be selected by default. Do not change it.
If it is not selected by default, check the Seagate DiscWizard box and select Next.
  6. At the Bootable Media Options window, select Next.
  7. In the Bootable Media Type Selection window, select your CD burner's drive letter.
  8. Insert a blank CD in your CD burner drive and select Next.
  9. At the final step, which is a summary of the process that DiscWizard is going to perform, select Proceed.

  10. You will see a window that says, "Processing, please wait" as your DiscWizard CD is being created. Once the CD is finished, you will see an information window, informing you that the operation was successful. Select the OK button to close this window.

Occasionally, the DiscWizard CD burning software is unable to manage the CD-ROM drive or its device drivers. At some point, midway through the creation of the CD, the DiscWizard may report a timeout error and abort the CD burning.

In this situation, an alternative method may be more effective. If you have typical CD burning applications like those from Roxio or Nero, then you can make a CD from an ISO image file. DiscWizard Bootable Media Builder allows you to choose ISO Image file. That selection creates a single file for use by CD burning applications. The CD burning application may be better able to manage the CD drive or its device drivers. For more information about how to use an ISO image file to create a CD, see Document ID: 201431.
