There can be a variety of reasons for the Mirra software to report File backups in progress. This article explains.

There can be a variety of reasons for the Mirra software to report File backups in progress:

  • Intermittent communication problems between a computer and the Mirra, especially during the initial backup.
  • Wireless connections.
  • Backing up certain kinds of files, especially those associated with certain applications.
  • An accounting problem (in other words, all eligible files have actually been properly backed up but were simply not tracked and removed from the internal To be backed up list).

Whatever the cause of the problem, you can see which files are actually out of sync and force the computer and the Mirra to completely synchronize your backups by removing some local Mirra data files from the computer and restarting the local software along with the Mirra.

WARNING: This procedure should only be performed after all applications except Mirra have been closed and the Mirra software has had time to complete any pending backups. Once the process has been started, you should plan on not using the computer for up to 30 minutes to allow it time to complete the synchronization.

To see which, if any, of your files is actually out of sync,

  1. Open the Mirra application and press Ctrl-Shift-D. Mirra Support appears in the Menu Bar at the top of the Mirra application.
  2. Go to Mirra Support > Show Files Out of Sync to see which files have not yet been backed up.

To force the computer and the Mirra to re-sync,

  1. Go to Mirra Support > Stop Mirra Service. The Mirra application displays the Mirra Service screen and a popup notification in your System Tray indicates that the Mirra Service is not running.
  2. Go to Mirra Support > Clear_SyncState.
  3. Right-click the now-gray Mirra icon in the System Tray and select Exit from the dropdown menu.
  4. Reboot the Mirra:
    • Press and release the black power button on the front of the Mirra. The yellow light begins to blink and then goes out. The green light goes out as the unit powers down.
    • Wait five seconds, then turn the unit back on.
    • Click the Mirra icon on your desktop to open the Mirra application.
When the Mirra software reconnects, it compares its local manifest of files eligible for backup with what has already been backed up to the Mirra. If the Mirra finds any files missing, it now forces their backup. During this time, the Files remaining number fluctuates and may grow quite large. Don't be alarmed. Essentially, the Mirra software assumes that all files are out of sync until the Personal Server confirms that they are indeed backed up. Eventually, the Files remaining number goes down to zero.

Leave your computer alone during this time to allow the resynchronization to fully complete. If the backup process stops and there are still files reported as out of sync, submit a case to Technical Support for assistance in determining which files are not being backed up and why.
