How to locate the Maxtor Shared Storage Drive on your network

Using Maxtor Quick Start or Maxtor Easy Manage software to detect the drive and connect to the web interface.

You can use Maxtor Quick Start or Maxtor Easy Manage software to detect the drive and connect to the web interface.

To open the root of the MSS or Shared Storage II:

  1. Go to Start.
  2. Select Run.
  3. Type: \\ and the Shared Storage drive's ip address and click OK.
    Example: \\192.168.1.102
  4. Click OK.

Or type in the name of the Shared Storage drive's name found on the label on the drive.

  1. Go to Start.
  2. Select Run.
  3. Type:  \\ and the Shared Storage drive's name found on the drive's label.
    Example: \\MSS-ABC123
  4. Click OK.

This will open the Web Interface of the Maxtor Shared Storage drive.

  1. Now, open a browser and in the Address field.
  2. Type :  // and the Shared Storage drive's ip address and [Enter] or click Go.
    Example:  //192.168.1.102
    Note: Some browsers may require the address to be entered like this example: http://192.168.1.102

Seagate recommends using the latest version of the MSS Quickstart Software. Seagate is continuously improving our software and we will make periodic updates available for download. Download the latest version of MSS Quickstart Software. The Maxtor Quick Start download can be used standalone without requiring the Maxtor Shared Storage Installation CD.

  1. After the Maxtor CD installation or Quick Start upgrade installation, there will be a Maxtor Quick Start icon on the desktop. This is the starting point for using your Maxtor Shared Storage drive.

  2. Select Locate.

  3. The Maxtor Quick Start program will scan the local network for attached Maxtor Shared Storage drives. If more than one is found, they will be listed in the pulldown. Choose the drive you will be working with and select Next.

    If the Maxtor Quick Start program does not find your Maxtor Shared Storage drive(s), the most likely cause is a hardware or software firewall preventing it from scanning the network. See Document ID: 189411 for more information.

  4. Choose Drive Management.

  5. Choose Advanced Settings.

    This will open the Web Interface of the Maxtor Shared Storage drive.
