Both the OneTouch SBEClient and the Quick Start Software uses UDP Port 4301 or 4302 to communicate with their respective External Storage products. You will have to set your Software Firewall to Permit Access to this Port for proper communication. You can also, if desired set your Firewall to permit either the SBEClient or MSS Quick Start to communicate over your network as well. The following procedure details how to permit access to UDP Port 4301 and either the SBEClient or the Maxtor Quick Start Application through the Windows Firewall found in Windows.
Please consult the documentation for your hardware or software firewall if you don't use the Windows XP firewall or you use another product in addition to the Windows firewall.
The current version of Maxtor Quick Start software is not supported in Windows Vista, so allowing exceptions in the Firewall may not resolve errors in the QuickStart software in Windows Vista. To access your Maxtor Shared Storage drive in Windows Vista, you will have to browse to the drive's name or IP address. For more information, see Document ID: 202171. If you are having problems accessing private accounts on your Maxtor Shared Storage or Maxtor Shared Storage II hard drive, please see Document ID: 197371.
The Maxtor OneTouch SBEClient software is not supported in Windows Vista, so allowing exceptions in the Firewall will not resolve errors in the QuickStart software in Windows Vista.
