Seagate Central - How to find your host name and IP address in MacOS


Provides instructions for finding the hostname and IP address of the Seagate Central in MacOS.

The default host name of your Seagate Central in MacOS is Seagate-XXXXXX (where XXXXXX is the last six digits of the MAC on the Seagate Central label, which can be found on the bottom of the device).

If you are on the same network as your Seagate Central, you can open a browser and type the host name into the address bar to launch the Seagate Central Assistant.

Please follow this procedure to find IP address of your Seagate Central in MacOS:

  1. From the Mac desktop, click Go, then Utilities.
  2. Select Network Utility.
  3. Select the Ping tab.
  4. Enter the host name, add .local to it, and click Ping.
    Example: Seagate-123456.local

    The system replies with the IP address for your Seagate Central.
