How does Seagate Global Access powered by TappIn work?
A TappIn agent is installed on the NAS with a firmware update.  After the BA NAS admin activates the services, users can sync their TappIn account with their BlackArmor NAS user account, making all their data on the BlackArmor NAS available via their TappIn account.  TappIn accounts can be accessed at seagate.tappin.com.  TappIn accounts can also be accessed via the new Seagate Global Access iOS app and Seagate Global Access Android app.

How is the new Seagate Global Access powered by TappIn installed?

Please see Document ID: 004592 for installation instructions.

Does the new Seagate Global Access powered by TappIn require user to create a TappIn account?

Yes. The new Seagate Global Access services allows BA NAS user accounts to be synced up with TappIn accounts.  The BlackArmor NAS does provide users with 3-year TappIn standard account licenses.

Do you have to leave your computer powered on at all times in order to remotely access files with Seagate Global Access powered by TappIn?

No. Only the BlackArmor NAS must remain powered on in order for users to access the NAS via seagate.tappin.com or the Seagate Global Access remote apps.
There is some confusion with this issue because TappIn also offers a Desktop client that runs in Windows and Mac.  The TappIn Desktop clients do require users to leave their computers running in order to access the data on those computers.

Seagate Global Access uses the best security practices and technology to provide secure home access and sharing solutions. Using the best security practices and technology, we can proudly say your content safety is the most important aspect of the Seagate Global Access by TappIn solutions.

What happens to current Seagate Global Access accounts when the update to the latest code?

Original Seagate Global Access accounts were accessed via globalaccess.seagate.com
After updating to the latest firmware that provides the new Seagate Global Access service powered by TappIn, the BlackArmor NAS will no longer be accessible there.  The accounts will still be accessible in that you can login to the site, but the BA NAS will not be available via these accounts.

If a user has access to a Read-Only share, does it show up in TappIn my stuff (and if so, with what permissions)?

When a BA NAS user syncs an account with Seagate Global Access powered by TappIn, all of the shares available to that user on the BA NAS will sync over and be available from TappIn.  If there are shares available to a user on a read-only basis, the share will be available for the user in the TappIn account with read-only privileges.

What happens if all the drives in a BA NAS 220 or 440 get replaced?

Some of the Seagate Global Access services are actually written to the drive.  If all the drives are replaced in a BA NAS 220 or 440, the admin will need to reload the same firmware before Seagate Global Access can be activated again.
