Seagate Backup Plus drives have a built-in sleep feature, but it is disabled by default.
It will follow whatever “sleep” commands are sent by the operating system. If you are using an older operating system or want the drive to follow a sleep pattern different from the operating system, please follow the instructions below.
This is a quick walk through of how to turn off the LED light on a Seagate Backup Plus drive.

  1. Be sure the drive is connected directly to the computer using a USB port, not using a docking station or hub.
  2. Open Seagate Dashboard by double-clicking the Seagate Dashboard 2.0 icon on the desktop.
For MacOS, this icon will be in the Applications folder.

If the software is not installed, see Document ID: 004319 for instructions on installing the software in Windows.
  3. In the upper right corner of the Seagate Dashboard, click the drive you want to adjust.

  4. Click the Manage tab.

  5. Click the dropdown menu under Power (which displays Never by default) and choose a time interval after which you want the drive to sleep.

To undo this change, click the Reset to Default button in the Power section.
